Sony has officially unveiled a new variant to its existing smartphone, this one named Xperia M2 Aqua. It is a mid-range device, but has something going for it that could turn out to be its major selling point — the dust and water resistant feature.
It may not look like much at first glance, as it sports the same OmniBalance design many new Xperias share. In fact, much of the specifications match the single-SIM Xperia M2 that’s already available in the Malaysian market for more than three months now. It has almost the same size, the same low-resolution display, the same processor, even the same battery capacity, as the original M2.

Sure, there are many flagship smartphones that already has dust and water resistant features, but judging by the price of the non-IP65/68 Xperia M2, we may be looking at one of the cheapest water resistant LTE smartphones in Malaysia when it does arrive here.
Speaking of which, Sony says that the Xperia M2 Aqua will roll out from Fall 2014 onwards to markets including Asia Pacific, Europe, and Latin America. The official price has yet to be announced, but the single-SIM Xperia M2 is currently at RM799 while the dual-SIM variant is going for RM939. Visit the product page for more.
