Update (September 9th, 2014): Samsung Malaysia Electronics has finally officiated the device, though it still appears to be missing from Samsung Malaysia’s website.
Though Samsung has yet to officially announce or launch the Galaxy Mega 2 phablet, Senheng has already begun listing the original Mega’s successor on its online store. Samsung Malaysia Electronics hasn’t list Mega 2 on its site, nor has it issue any press release yet. In fact, many are speculating that it’ll only be officially unveiled at IFA 2014.
Last year’s Galaxy Mega actually came in two sizes — 5.8 and 6.3 inches — though the latter is the only variant widely available in the Malaysian market. This year, Samsung decided to simplify it a little by just making a 6-inch version of the Mega. The dimensions are still unclear, but the display is actually at around 5.98 to 5.99 inches; here are the rest of the specifications:
- Display: 6-inch TFT at 1280 x 720 (~245ppi)
- Processor: Quad-core 1.5GHz CPU (model unspecified)
- RAM: 1.5GB
- ROM: 8GB with microSD slot
- Camera: 8MP main, 2.1MP front
- Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band WiFi, NFC, A-GPS
- LTE: Yes
- SIM: Micro-SIM
- Operating System: Android 4.4 KitKat
At this point, even the battery capacity is not specified yet, but some are reporting it to have 2800mAh.
Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 will be selling for RM1,299 and it comes in black and white color options. All in all, it seems more like a downgrade to the original Mega 6.3. Mega 2’s processor may be newer and faster, but everything else — display resolution, memory, camera, connectivity — remains the same as the old Mega’s. If the battery capacity is true, it is also 400mAh smaller than the old model’s, though understandably the older Mega 6.3 has a larger display. Mega 2 also only has 8GB of internal storage, compared with 16GB the Mega 6.3 is offering last year.
