If you’re one of those who have been waiting to get your hands on that Moto G with 4G LTE, you might want to hold off for just a bit as Motorola has announced the second generation Moto G. This was one of the many other devices that Motorola announced, ahead of IFA, at the opening of its Chicago HQ.
The new Moto G now comes with a 5” HD display but it’s still the 1280 x 720 affair that is found in the older models. This also means that the new device has a lower pixel density than the older ones. Despite being bigger in size, practically not much has changed internally from the 1st-gen model. It does however have a new twin front-firing speaker design which is a nod to HTC’s design cue.
The device now comes in at the same price of the original Moto G but we’re a little miffed that it does not come with LTE connection, even though it’s using the same Snapdragon 400 processor. We do wonder if the hardware required for the LTE to work is already built-in but that’ll have to wait until the folks at XDA get their hands on this device.
We’ve compared the new device with its older siblings to get a better idea of what’s changed:

Another point to note is that although the size of the device and display has increased, it still has the same 2,070 mAh battery from before. Motorola does uphold the same ‘all-day battery life’ commitment as before but it’s also something we’ll have to wait and see.
The new Moto G starts at US$ 179.99 and comes with free 50 GB Google Drive for 2 years. It has gone on sale in India, France, UK, Brazil and Spain. It can also be bought online from the Motorola US or Motorola Germany sites. Motorola expects to bring the device to a dozen more countries by year end through its carrier partners around the world.
