It looks like ASUS smartphone owners in Malaysia, namely the ZenFone 4 (A400CG and A400CXG), ZenFone 5 (A501CG and A500KL), and ZenFone 6 (A600CG), are already receiving their FOTA (firmware over-the-air) upgrade to Android KitKat 4.4.

The update brings a lot of improvements to the devices with some important updates to dual-SIM ones: the devices can now have full dual standby mode where in case one SIM receives a call, the phone will lock the other SIM and it will be unavailable for as long as the active SIM is still connected to the call. Dual-SIM phones can also automatically send an SMS reply to a call using the same SIM/phone number the original call came in from. Other highlights of the update include filter effects for videos and a Do Not Disturb mode. Another interesting addition is the Easy Mode for the launcher. Now you can get big icons in easy to read format.

Here is the changelog for the update:

After the upgrade, users will be asked to allow ASUS ZenUI Service to access social media and cloud storage accounts so that those can be integrated into ASUS Gallery, ASUS Music, ASUS File Manager, ASUS Contacts, and ASUS Calendar. The update will also reset the face detection, as well as the settings for sorting in Album mode within ASUS Gallery, to default. Users are advised to check the current settings before proceeding.

To manually check if the update is available on your device, simply go to Settings > About > System Update and tap on Check Update. As with all updates, please make sure all necessary data/files are backed up before proceeding and ensure the device is connected to Wi-Fi to download the necessary files as it may go up to more than 400 MB.
