Waze has now been updated and the new version brings another useful feature for most of us living in the city. The new Time in Traffic bar should help to appease users’ restless minds and aching right foot by showing them how much longer they will have to suffer.

The Time in Traffic bar will give Wazers a visual representation when they get stuck in a traffic jam and will show progress of the users’ movement through the congestion. It will show how far the roads are jammed up, where the users are currently located in the said jam, as well as how much longer they will have to drive to get out of it.

The new 3.9.4 update is now live on Play Store and brings some significant performance improvements. According to Waze, the version is said to be up to 85% faster, and the development team has also worked on reducing the time it takes to do search, getting routes, as well as working on a re-route. Other improvements include an improved support for U-turns, some UI enhancements, and some bug fixes.

On another note, Waze is now part of Google Mobile Service (GMS) and joins other existing apps in the stable: Gmail, Chrome, Google+, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Docs, and Google Translate. GMS apps can come preinstalled on mobile devices and this can be done by OEMs and carriers. Waze explained further that becoming a GMS also helps them to further improve the Waze Connected Citizens program; that was launched in 2013 in 10 countries. The program connects citizens with more than 20 municipalities, law enforcement offices, and departments of transportation with the aim of promoting safer roads, as well as to provide a two-way public data share at no cost. See the Waze community-blog for more info.
