Huawei Malaysia has been teasing its upcoming mid-range phone for almost 3 weeks now but we’re almost at the last leg. Although it looks like the pre-registration for the brand new Honor 4X is now closed and the Vmall site has been taken down for maintenance, there will still be time to get in on the action when the site comes back on at midnight.
Huawei has been promoting the design aspects of the 4X and is evidently proud of the craftsmanship. The phone has incorporated woodwork, cotton and linen weaving techniques into the construction of the textured back, which was achieved with a 5-axis laser engraving technology. Another interesting claim that they’ve brought forward is about the phone having double the signal strength of other phones in its class. This dual 4G SIM phone is supposed to deliver better reception when in underground garages, and is also supposed to keep the phone staying connected to 4G networks instead of jumping to 3G.
The Honor 4X was first announced last October and comes in several configurations back in Huawei’s home market. The one that we’re getting in Malaysia will be powered by an octa-core Kirin 620 CPU with 64-bit architecture, and will have a 2 GB RAM as well as a slightly underwhelming 8 GB internal storage. The 13 MP Sony/OmniVision sourced camera is said to deliver some decent images that are enhanced by Huawei’s SmartImage 2.5 image processing engine. The 5-element, f/2.0 lens should also help with the images, and the assembly comes with a fingerprint protection film to keep your prints out of the shots.

Users were still allowed to register their interest on Vmall’s site till before 7pm but it has since been taken down. The phone is priced at RM 699 and will be available in Black or White colour options. On top of the standard 1 year manufacturer warranty, Huawei Malaysia is also giving a 6-month exchange warranty if the device is found to be defective.
We’re not sure if Huawei has something extra lined up for the Honor 4X pioneers but for that price (or lower), Malaysians can also opt for the Meizu m1 note or the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G.
If you’re interested in other Huawei devices though, Vmall is now giving away RM 280 worth of vouchers for a limited time. Check back on those when the site goes up again, hopefully by midnight today.
