Great news to all Sony Xperia Z3 owners. During Sony’s keynote at CES 2015 just a few weeks ago, Chief Operating Officer of Sony Electronics Michael Fasulo took the stage to announce that the Sony Xperia Z3 will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in February 2015.
Back in December, the official Sony Xperia’s Twitter account already hinted that both “core” Xperia devices, the Z2 and Z3, will receive Lollipop in the “beginning of 2015”. It it nice to finally get a more specific timeframe from the COO himself.
@SamTomelleri We’ll start the upgrade at beginning of 2015 for the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series.

Sony has been good at delivering its promise when it comes to Android updates. Previously, it was able to deliver Android 4.4 KitKat to its older Xperia lineup not to far from the expected rollout date (here’s one example).
Unfortunately for now, the Lollipop OTA update will probably only arrive for the Xperia Z3, but rollout for of the Z3 family like the Z3 Compact, the Z3 Tablet Compact, or even the Z2, shouldn’t be too far off.
As of February 5th, Vodafone Australia announced that Z3’s Lollipop status is already in final testing phase, so looks like we’re close. 10 days left until the end of February.
